pottery shards are things actually made by the hands of those from the past, sometimes you can even see fingerprints from people who lived hundreds of years ago. People worked for hours to make these basic tools that made life simpler for them- therefore they are a part of theire culture, a part of their life.

many diff reasons. could be all that is left of an earlier people. some to show the ingenuity of materials used. did you know that a fork originally started out back in the roman era as just one long sharp tool similar to a huge toothpick? and then it went to two long sharp type of prongs. and up to what we now know and use as forks.....

because unfortunately they were unable to unearth a whole piece of pottery from the site in which they found it.
