Get it in writing that the deposit will be refunded if your application is not approved. That way you will be sure.

Decoy Duck had the right idea "unless otherwise stated in the application". Some landlords have a non-refundable credit check fee, so a portion is not refundable. If nothing is stated then I suggest that you ask before writing the check and, if it is refundable, write "Refundable Deposit on Apt # nnnn St." in the memo to document your mutual understanding.

If you don't get the apartment, they have to give you your deposit back. The only money they can keep is the fee for the credit check.

Your cancelled verify is your receipt. You paid the deposit to hold the place of residing and now you do not decide for it so which you think of the owner could desire to easily lose hire given which you have replaced your strategies? you probable signed a hire, study it. You agreed to it. usually there's a paragraph that states what's going to ensue in case you come back to a selection to not flow in. i'm going to wager it says you lose your deposit. do not you think of it is honest? Why do you think of a landlord has to soak up the cost and lose money? everybody thinks that landlords are purely undesirable, yet you are the single breaking your observe and you will pay for it. Geez, think of roughly what's honest. . .in case you hadn't held it for your self, somebody else might have rented it.
