WASHINGTON -- U.S. military and intelligence officials have systematically underreported the violence in Iraq in order to suit the Bush administration's policy goals, the bipartisan Iraq Study Group said.
In its report on ways to improve the U.S. approach to stabilizing Iraq, the group recommended Wednesday that the director of national intelligence and the secretary of defense make changes in the collection of data about violence to provide a more accurate picture.
The panel pointed to one day last July when U.S. officials reported 93 attacks or significant acts of violence. "Yet a careful review of the reports for that single day brought to light 1,100 acts of violence," it said.
"The standard for recording attacks acts as a filter to keep events out of reports

That weak article lost me at the term "panel".
We're in a war. If it took up until December of 2006 for people to realize that there was a possibility of violence in Iraq being "underreported", that's pathetic.

Spin and propaganda go hand in hand with war. Especially when it is a war that never should have been started in the first place. It kind of reminds one of Germany in 1942 or North Vietnam in 1966.

We shouldn't.Excellent point. And their "you're either with us or against us" rhetoric doesn't work anymore.
Unquestioned support for the leader is not a quality, loyalty to the big leader over truth isn't a virtue and that's not the American way.
Their cheap attempts to brush anyone who won't be lied to any longer as a traitor is past its expiration date.

Not now, not then, not ever, the record and their history is all to clear. The sheep will always follow their leader, even if it is to the door of the slaughter house. The level of individuality and critical thinking in this country is a disgrace and an affront to those who do exert their individuality and practice critical thinking and reasoning.

We can't believe them anymore.
I remember during the Vietnam war, President Johnson would say year after year "our boys will be home by Christmas", that got referred to as the "Credibility Gap". Bush is the same way, claiming for over 4 years now that we are just a few months away from "victory". Anyone who still believe him at this point must be very gulible.

We shouldn't. I question everything now. They've lied about global warming reports, told curators at the grand canyon to ommit the age of it so as not to defend creationists and they've lid about so many other things.
