We just purchased a home that was foreclosed and for months now we have been receiving the previous occupants' mail. We are constantly putting "return to sender fwd address unknown" on the mail and placing it back in the mail box but it just won't go away. We have no clue where the previous occupants are now living. Is there anyway that we can stop receiving this stuff for good?

I've owned my home since the late 80s and I still occassionally get mail addressed to not only the previous owner but the owner before them.

Junk mail will just keep coming. All you can do is keep marking it return to sender. If the postage is bulk mail, the post office doesn't always return it. That's why it continues.

A. Ask the mail carrier to stop delivering mail addressed to them.

B. Put up a second mailbox. Label one mailbox with your name and the other with the name of the previous owner. Read the mail in the box with your name. Do not open the mail left in the other box.

I've had a similar problem: five years after I bought my house I'm still recieving mail from three owners ago!

I did put an index card with my last name on it inside the mailbox, and that helped a little. Other than that and continuing to mark "not at this address" on hte mail that's not yours, there isn't much you can do.
