My puppy has a microchip in her and I just found this out. I got her from my old neighbors and they didn't mention anything about it. I just took her to the vet and got her her shots and whatnot and they scanned her and told me. If she had already been registered to someone or reported lost would it have shown up immediately when they scanned her?

I just called the company with the chip number and they are sending me forms to register her.

yes it would depending on the type of chip when a vet scans your dog he would of looked on the computer put in the chip number and it would of come up with the details if lost or stolen, pet log which my dogs are chipped with have the facility if you loose your pet or it gets stolen they put an alert out to all vet surgery's and its logged on the data base in case some one has your dog and claims its theirs

She could have been a stray before or got lost. Maybe the people who had her before just got rid of her and your old neighbor bought her. Did you ask the neighbor about it. Maybe it just slipped their mind about telling you that the puppy was microchipped. Do you know what vet that friend took the puppy to? They may have record and they should have known that it was microchipped. Some vets have a tool that identifies all microchips but some do not and every microchip company is different. That is why its so hard to track these pets with microchip down. They need a standard type of microchip that all the companies have so that anyone can identify them. If you have done all you can and have even posted it in the lost and found of the paper that you have just gotten a puppy and discovered it was microchipped and tell about it, and no one answers the ad, then you have done everything you can but love him and give him a really good home. But do check with your old neighbors about it too. They may have gotten it and knew it was chipped when they got it.

No, they would have to go to the microchip website and enter that code to find out the status. Vets normally would not even do this unless their was a cause. You need to find out what the website is, your vet might know, and re-register the dog into your name.
