Yes, but you have to buy them. On Holiday's (ie the weekend) a character appears on the third screen of the city, next to the park. Every weekend he offers a different improvement for your house.
On the 1st day of any season, he sells the refrigerator for 1000 gold. This allows you to store anything you can eat, and comes with as many slots as your inventory. (He also sells the kitchen this day.) Once you have the larger house, you can buy a larger refrigerator.
I believe on the 13 he sells a shelf for a 1000 gold. What will not go into the refrigerator will go into the shelf. That includes tools, spells, and anything you get from the dungeons. Like the refrigerator there is a larger version available once you get the larger house.
I've never really had a serious problem with my inventory size, but I shipped almost everything before I got the self, and after that, I was able to keep inventory control pretty well.
