I have found two good apartments and I am having a really difficult time deciding between the two and could use any advice anyone has. Both apartments are owned by the same person and are two bedroom with living room, kitchen and bathroom. The first one is $500/month and has a slightly smaller living room, detached 2 car garage, all electric, and stove. The second one is $600/month has a 1 car attached garage, propane/electric, refrigerator, stove, more modern, out of the county I live in, which means double taxes for a different working/living county. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.

The attached garage is not essential, neither is in a bad location where being outside at night would be a bad thing. $600 looks like mostly old people and a few rednecks. The $500 older people on one side, trashy people on the other, with kids, not young enough to be screaming and irritating, and not the kind of people that would cause any problems.

The drive is maybe 4 extra minutes out of town then the first, no biggy. They are both right off the same road.

The cheaper one has a bigger garage to hold awesome cars n' things in. I'd go with that. ;p

Hmm, I'd probably go with option 1.

But really you should write out the pros and cons of each one in two columns on a piece of paper and decide from there. You didn't say how much more you'd have to drive for the second one. Getting a fridge for the first one will be a lot less hassle than filing taxes twice for the second one every year.

It appears that the 2nd apt has better ammenities. Not exactly sure where you live, but is having an attached garage important? Also, would you rather live in the country as compared to where the 1st apt is? Also, what kind of neighbors are around there? For me, having lots of screaming little kids sucks, as does having neighbors who are young and are major partiers.

Location, location, location. If both properties are otherwise acceptable, take the one that is closest and most convenient to where you want to shop, bank, worship, socialize, work, eat, drink, and whatever else you do in your life. If you don't know exactly what is around the location, then plug the address in to Yahoo! yellow pages and search for amenities that are of interest to you.

I'd go with the cheaper one. You should be able to pick up a frig fairly cheaply. 2 car garages come in handy for all sorts of storage.
