I need the definition of "boot cycle" for a class at school and I can't find it anywhere. I know it's computer related, I know boot means like a reboot of a computer, and I know a cycle is neverending. But I'm not sure if that's the definition, because I can't find it anywhere.

Boot cycle starts after you hit the power button and ends when your deskstop is on the screen. In between are:
1. POST or power on self test. This tests all the major components of the PC and may generate an error message (beep codes) if something is wrong. Beep codes help you when you just get a blank display and could not read any error message.
2. Control is handed to boot loader so that PC will boot from default boot device.
3. PC starts booting from HDD or CD as the case may be.
4. OS is loaded.
5. Startups are loaded

Oh My! This made me laugh! I've got very hard-to-fit feet and must search for weeks to find shoes, boots are impossible. Usually I end up wearing men's shoes, as they are made wide enough to be comfortable. About 10 years ago I found a pair of ladies boots that fit AND they were comfortable. The only trouble with them, they were UGLY black and looked like military dress boots...YUCK. You know I bought them, they were on the SALE rack! Funny thing is, I really liked having boots that fit, were warm and comfortable. Every time I put them on, I would tease my boys (high school age at the time) "Yo Mama wears combat boots!" I took very good care of them, because I knew it would be a miracle to find another pair of comfortable boots... After I'd had them about two years, they suddenly disappeared! I searched everywhere, grilled the boys thinking they had hidden them...the boots were GONE! The next Christmas my brother came from N.C. for the Holidays. As soon as he got in the door and began to take off "his" boots, I recognized my "nice" boots, all battered and beaten and scuffed! I couldn't believe it, he'd stolen my boots! He actually thought they were his old military boots, and took them home after his last visit!
