You'll need a business license and you'll need a ficticious name filed with the county.

Without them, most supplier will not deal with you. Legally, they cannot sell the supplies to you without charging you the sales tax, if you don't have a business license with an intent to resell. You'll have to be treated as an end user, rather than reseller.

Also, if you sell your "products" to anyone within your state, you will have to charge sales tax (or at least pay it to IRS). You'll also need to report income and pay the tax on it as well. You really don't want to get caught with tax evasion...

You got the EIN (same as social security number), which is ok for federal tax. If you want to buy from vendors without paying tax and proof that you are whole saler, then you need to request for RESALE license. However, you need to charge tax from people who purchase within your state, even you are online selling. That is why if you read some of the listing online indicates that. And you will need to file the sales tax quarterly to your state.

If you don't want to do so, then sometimes, the vendors will not sell you things at wholesale price.

As long as you obtained the goods legally, you don't need any specific license to sell anything on e-bay for profit, unless such goods are specifically prohibited by their own policies (body parts and nazi memorabilia being prime examples).

You will, however, be required to report your profit to the IRS and pay taxes on it.
