What do you say if you are contacting someone for the first time?

This person won't know me from Eve and I feel like an idiot but want to get to know them. I am not a stalker - it's family whom I've never known.

Just give them a call and say Hi, this is (name)
I have been wanting to meet with you for some time now and wanted to see how you was doing.

Note: You may have to explain who you are. Who your father, mother, grandparents are.

The conversation should go smoothly from there.
