I wish I could say yes, but I don't think we're quite there. The pre-season game with the bears showed we still have a ways to go. And in our division, the cards are going to be tough to beat, a healthy seahawk team will too.

Yes. They have the same chance as any other team does.

Will they make the playoffs, maybe.....maybe not. That is going to depend on how well they do, compared with Arizona who's much improved offense and defense could make some noise...with St. Louis who even when they are bad they tend to be still in the playoff mix, and Seattle, of which you can't underestimate.

I don't see anyone from the west making the playoffs unless they win the division though.

Why?

You have the Bears in the North, the Eagles and Cowboys in the east and the Saints in the South....and you can't cross teams like the Panthers, Giants and Lions out this year either as they should be good enough to make it interesting at least on who does or doesn't make it in.

Then you have AFC teams too, and you have to look at the schedule there. (I don't have it with me) but if the 49ers play San Diego, New England, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Cincinatti, Pittsburgh or Denver...they are going to be in a dogfight and I don't know if they can beat thoose teams.

Don't get me wrong, the 49ers have improved...and it's nice to see that...they are a classy orginization from top to bottom. I just can't help but wonder if they aren't a year away still from really making their mark.

The 49ers Defense has improved so much its hard to say no. Patrick Willis is going to be BIG Ray Lewis BIG. Clements improves the secondary and gives the 9ers some hope. The Offense Alex Smith still young but is showing great improvement. VD will be the player hes ecpected to be and Frank Gore will get his carries and will get his yards. But they need to get a legit second back they cant expect Gote to carry the load he did last year. A O-line thats improved with youth by adding Staley and a Reciever core that could usr a lot of help but have Jackson gives Smith a reliable option and a playmaker. So YES they have a chance. and YES they will make the playoffs.

Im a huge Niners fan so i may be a little biased.

I think the only team in the division that really got stronger other than the Niners were the Cardinals and lets face it they are the Cardinals.

The Niners will contend for the west championship if Frank Gore and Vernon Davis stay healthy. They need better production from Alex Smith than what he has had in his first two seasons.

They did excellent work in the offseason for their defense. Getting Nate Clements and Michael Lewis from free agency and drafting what I think is the best addition of them all for the 3-4 defense. Patrick Willis.

Im still a nervous Niner fan so Im not getting my hopes up. If this isnt the year than hopefully next year it will happen.

To answer your question. Yes they stand a chance if making the playoffs. A better than decent one at that.

Everyone who thinks the Seahawks won't repeat FOR THE FOURTH TIME as NFC West champions don't watch enough football. The 9ers got nothing this offseason. A worthless LB and Darrell Jackson: who, according to all the Seahawk-haters, wasn't that good to begin with. Alex Smith is NOT the truth, he can't get it done. And I have one word for you regarding Frank Gore: TAPE. He will not do anything this year. The Seahawks made the hands-down best offseason aquisitions this year: Patrick Kerney and Jason Babin on the D-Line, Deon Grant and Brian Russell as safeties, Marcus Pollard at TE, AND they kept together an already great squad. They've got SOLID: QB, (Hasselbeck); RB (Alexander); the best fullback in the league (Mack Strong); TE; HEALTHY O-Line; a revamped and strong D-Line; fast corners, great safeties, and the BEST linebacker core in the league (Lofa Tatupu, Julian Peterson, and Leroy Hill). Not to mention a field goal kicker that was able to single-handedly win 4 games last season. I IMPLORE you to tell me what the 49ers, Cardinals, or Rams have done that could possible change what happened the last three years... Awaiting your answers...

sure they have a chance. just like every other nfc west team. the nfc west is the most interesting division in football because you can make a good argument for each team to win the division. the 9ers have playoff talent no doubt about it, but they need time to work together and build chemistry and gel together. it might take more than a year so im saying that the 9ers finish 2nd in the nfc west and miss the playoffs barely. but watch out for next year.

As mutch as I hate the 49ers, i'd say they have a good chance of making the playoffs, of course they will lose their 1st playoff game though. They will make it as a wild card.

I think they do. They just missed taking the division by a game last season. With both the defence and offense improved they will do better. I think they will either win the west division or the seahawks will and they will be the wildcard. But I think they will get out within the 1st two games.
