Anything like pictures or a description would be nice. Is it suburban -like, grungy, dirty, off- puting, industrial or clean.

It's long and it's made of asphalt. Ha ha!

Seriously, it depends on what portion of Canal that you are looking at. The eastern portion is in the area of Shockoe Bottom/Shockoe Slip. The Shockoe area has a lot of restaurants and clubs and is a great hangout. Also, there is the Canal Walk (old canal turned into tourist area) Mayo Island and Browns Island in that area. A lot of people fish off of the Mayo St. Bridge. I know that there are the Canal Lofts up there, but I don't think that they have parking for the building.

Heading west, you run into the business/hotel district. Boring.

West of Belvedere, Canal runs into the Fan Area. Depending on the area, some of the buildings are over 100 years old. There is a lot of student housing in the area, due to the fact that it s right by Virginia Commonwealth University. There is also some section 8 housing in that area, but just in certain spots, not a whole lot. Even further, I think that it turns into Cumberland Street and that stretches into Carytown past Boulevard. Carytown is a nice shopping area, the houses aren't that bad.

I have no pictures to show you.

Good luck!
