So far, no one is right. It was a season in which the playoffs were played, so the answer is not 1994 Expos. Keep trying.

And it's not impossible. It happened.

The Reds had the best record in 1981, but didn't make the playoffs since they didn't win either half.

This is impossible. Each division winner makes the playoffs and then the team with the next best record wins the wild card. Now there have been times when a team that wins a division and goes to the playoffs and a third place team has a better record than that division winner but doesn't go, but that's just the unfortunate luck of the draw of being in a competitive division.

That's not possible, unless two teams are in the same division and have the best record. Then they have one-playoff game, that means that whoever wins gets a playoff berth.

1981 Cincinnati Reds. They had the best overall record but did not win their division in either half of the split season.

in 1993, Atlanta finished with 104 wins & San Francisco finished with 103 wins and since their was no wildcard that year, they were not able to make the playoffs.
