My front porch is made with pressure-treated wood. It is stained a dark brown color. One day I realized there was a section on one piece of wood that looked "bubbly" and when I stepped on it, it felt sticky, almost like pine pitch. What could be causing this? This bubbly, sticky area only appears on one piece of wood. The porch is about 10' x 20' in size. Also, it is in direct sunlight all day long if that makes a difference. Thanks.

For these "retired or ex-contractors" who tell you to flip the board over.....deck boards should be attached "cup down" So if the builder did it the right way then flipping would consequently place the cup up, allowing water to pool on that board, which would encourage wicking, and eventually cause that boards cup to worsen every time it dried. The cup is most easily identified by the rings in the end of the board, but sometimes you just have to eyeball down the board to see which way it cups.

So NO, do not flip the board over, either deal with the seepage of the sap, or buy a new board and match the stain. It will continue to seep until it thoroughly dries.

sounds like there was a knot in that section of wood before it was treated and now the pine tar is oozing out

about the only thing you can do is flip the board over and restain it or replace the whole board if the knot goes all the way thru

how old is the deck? it sounds like you stained it right after it was installed! which is a no no a treated deck should weather for up to a year, longer is better before using a stain or paint the treating solution needs to be able to Leach off first sorry

To say that wood is installed cup down is to assume that the board was warped when installed.Just try flipping it over. That will be your easiest and quickest fix.

It looks like one board isn't thoroughly dried, try flipping the board over, see if this works, if not, replace it. It's more then likely pine pitch coming through.
