sometimes the extra money is not worth the headache of the higher job. If you make just a little less with a lot less stress then why go for the higher job. Does the higher job require more hours or the likelyhood of the company being able to change your hours to fit thier needs? Lots of good reasons not to go for it.

If you know the promotion would have brought you more money buy made your life miserable, I think you did the right thing in not pursuing it.

If you're happy where you are right now, it's all that matters. More money is not a goal in itself, it's only a means to an end. It's really up to you if you want more of it and if you think it's worth the effort. (Now, if you had children at home and nothing to feed them, that would be a different story...)

If others have unrealistic expectations from you, they might be repetedly disappointed. So it will be for their own good to start accepting you for who you really are, not for what they expect you to be.

I think if you are comfortable there then stay there. You must be a Gemini or similar because I go through this daily.

Let them deal with their own lives in their way and you deal with yours in your way.
If we were all the same, there would be no make-up or advertising industry.
