The reasonable question, after studying a map for a while, is why Asia and Europe are considered two continents.
This is an example of how geography suffers from the same problem that all classic studies do.
They do not change to reflect new knowledge. The understanding that Asia and Europe are on the same landmass goes back at least a thousand years, and yet, and yet...
Now. Who discovered America? When someone can explain why people think that Columbus did it when it is widely known that people already lived here, and when the Vikings settled here three hundred years before the Europeans came, that will be the day I respect what they teach children in school.
AND Columbus was not Italian! So why is Columbus day considered an Italian Holiday.
The Italians didn't even sponsor the expeditions when they were given the chance.
Ignorance is widespread, and it masquerades as standard education.
