And if so, does anyone know of any furniture stores that sell furniture, at reasonable costs, that are American or European made?

Most of it is, check the country of origin. Ikea has it posted everywhere.

You are not going to find "reasonable" European or American made anything.

Anyway, think about why you need the furniture. Most people have too much crap anyway. It's better to have fewer higher quality pieces of furniture than a ton of Chinese made Walmart crap.

I agree w/ the first answer - you aren't going to find much reasonably priced American or European made furniture.

You can try Ethan Allen - some of their sofas are made in the US. Avoid the rest of the stuff because it's over-priced & the quality isn't the best. (i.e. wood finish or workmanship)

Try a local furniture store that's been around a long time & has a good reputation in the community. The sales staff is usually experienced & well informed and direct you to US made furniture.

Here are some links to help you find American furniture makers: http://www.findyourfurniture.com/flash/stylefind.asp?movie=Contemporary

My last tip is to search Craig's List, garage sales, etc. for quality used wooden furniture.

I've found a few great tables & desks that way. Some just needed to be cleaned w/ Murphy's oil soap. Others needed to be refinished. You can't restore or refinish particle board.

Go to a Thrift shop and buy used for 1/2 the price of crap from WalMart. This way you buy sturdy wood furniture at a reasonable price.
