i have never heard of setting goals for a child. goals are something that someone sets for themselves. there aren't really goals if someone sets them up for you.

I have a 12 year old stepdaughter. Maybe I can help.
Short term: graduating from high school with good grades, learning to cook, going on a mission trip (or other community service event)
Medium term: selecting a career path, getting a job (age 16)
Long term: graduating from college or technical school, becoming a productive member of society
Of course, maybe if you talk to her about her dreams and wishes, you could come up with some other goals.
Good luck!

Don't know where you live, but since you seem to have met your goals. Reach out to things that you would like to try to do or learn. Mine was sailing about 5 years ago and in 10 years I will be able to sail around the world if I want. We just do the Caribbean/key's now. Fortunately my wife loves it. Anyway, do you want to travel? My sister did a 3 month work/support in Antarctica. Learn to scuba, learn to play chess, do a mini triathlon. How much income are you going to need to retire in 25 years? Do you need 100k tax free. Well, thats 2 mil in muni bonds. There are many goals/love/hobbies you just need to look around.

Rules for child raising. #1 teach your child #2 goals: school, college, grad school, career, marriage then children #3 teach them to find what makes their heart sing and find a way to make it a job. Then you the parent must support what ever they want to do because in the long run they will be happy and love you more for letting them become happy adults. This comes from the mother of 2 boys 23 and 15 the oldest is in grad school for sound design because as a mathamatical genus his heart choose design

All the same: to be healthy, happy, and productive. The "productive" part implies getting a good education and maximizing one's options. Things like visiting a foreign country are covered by the "happy" and "productive" components.
