The countries listed by others are those easy to find on Wiki etc. There are many other countries that are suppressed from these lists as are not independent even though the people have a national identity.
For example Catalonia should be on list since is a country occupied by Spain. The Canary Islands are another autonomous area in Spain that may or may not wish to be on such a list.
Ceuta is an autonomous city of Spain located on the North African coast, with similar status to that Gibraltar has from Britain.
Crimea is country that is part of Ukraine at present but was granted independence in 1921, but subsequently absorbed into the USSR and became part of the Ukrain under the Soviets, but has claims for independent (or to join Russia).
Chechnya is a country seeking to be independent from Russia.
Spelling is also important. Officially the Ivory Coast uses the French Côte d'Ivoire , so could be on the list (and I note it is on one above)
There are no doubt more examples beginning with 'C'.
