I love the name Ginny but I want to have that be my daughter's nickname, not her full name. Virginia is one of the best of the gin, gen, jen, jin names but does Virginia Kate Mobile sound bad? Any pretty alternatives?

okay... WOW! Everyone who answered this really rose to the challenge! I loved the Harry Potter references because...well, that is who she will be named after! I have loved that character since I was about 16 years old :)
Thank you thank you thank you for all of the suggestions and opinions! My husband hates Ginevra so that is pretty much out, and no offense to the Ginger lovers....but all I can think of is the "Ginger kids" from SouthPark. Lol! Also, Guinivere....that would be quite bold, no?

I think it is a really preatty name also it sounds adult but has more childish nicknames for when whe is a baby. Also when you see her you can decide she just might not look like a virginia. I wouldn't worry too much about it sounding like vagina because everyone at her school will just know her as ginny.

I like the name Virginia, but other names with Ginny as a nickname include Ginevra (but that would get a lot of teasing about Harry Potter) and Ginger, but Virginia is my favorite.

Virginia Kate doesn't flow all too well, so you may want to consider changing the middle name. Here are some suggestions:

Virginia Rose
Virginia Francis
Virginia Elizabeth
Virginia Christine
Virginia Beth
Virginia Madison
Virginia Danielle
Virginia Claire
Virginia Marie
Virginia Nichole / Nicole
Virginia Colette
Virginia Paige
Virginia Belle
Virginia Anne
Virginia Louise
Virginia Taylor

Hope this helps =]
Good luck and God bless

Virginia, nicknamed Ginny, is very sweet. ;) Not at all "like an old lady who cleans houses!" LOL A majority of the most popular names out there regularly receive "old lady" type comments from people who prefer things like Nevaeh, Tiffany or Alexis. It's just a matter of preference. However, I don't think you need to worry about a classic. Especially with the current trend toward old-fashioned names -- many far less common than Virgina, after all. You can rest assured she'd fit right in!

Others that could use Ginny type nicknames ...

Genevieve
Georgine, Georgina or Georgiana (Giorgina, if you're Italian)
Imogen
Ginevra
Guinevere

I think that Virginia Kate is absolutely adorable, and Ginny's a lovely nickname if she doesn't want to use her full name. The only other alternative I can think of is Ginerva, but I do like Virginia better.

Best of luck!

Virginia is a beautiful name! I have a cousin named Virginia who goes by Ginny as a nickname. Ginger sounds trashy.

I love Ginny and I sure don't think of an old lady.

And no need for a formal name, I think Ginny is great. It is current but not like Molly. It is a great name. If you don't want any of the alternative first names...just call her Ginny

Ginny Kate
Ginny Katrina
Ginny Maria
Ginny Miranda

I like Jenny/Ginny but I would also want it to be a nickname rather than a given name. I think children need names that will grow with them into adulthood.

We are currently expecting a daughter whom we plan to name Gwendalyn. Gwendalyn is a form of the name Guinevere, which Jennifer is derived from.

Perhaps you would consider Gwendolin, and you could call her Ginny? I think Gwendolin Kate sounds good (we are naming our daughter, Gwendalyn Rose).

You could also use Guinevere, with Ginny as a nickname.

I hope this helps! Have fun deciding.
