I think that Thompson has the potential to bring together a lot of people... He's likable and contrary to what those less informed might say...has a fairly mainstream platform... You are wise to think outside the box.

Eh, I was a registered republican until a few months ago, and now I am an Obama fan.

Normality is what I like to call a delusion. I know that sounds high minded or high brow, but let me explain. Normality exists because of something called "Causality." Causality is the phenomenon that when something happens more than once and in the same way, we begin to expect it to happen that way. For instance, you flip a light switch and the lights turn on or off.

What says that every time you do that, the lights will turn on or off? Well, because that is what you think a light switch does. If it does not, then the switch is broken or not working properly. In other words, its not normal. But why do we believe in causality? Why do humans think that just because something happened once in a way, it will happen again?

To this date, there is no logical basis for causality. Philosophers and scientists alike can find no reason for it other than one: its a human construct. That is to say the only reason humans have for believing in causality is that that is how our minds construct events. But there is not a natural process that makes causality work. Its all in your head.

So now you are probably thinking something along the lines of "well thanks for that philosophy lesson, but how the hell does that have anything to do with my question?"

Well, you asked if something was normal. I think I just proved that "normal" is a human thing, and like all humans themselves, it can be a flawed feeling. I cannot think of a reason you should not like Fred Thompson just because you are a Liberal Democrat that belongs to the ACLU. What, just because you associate with those organizations, Fred Thompson is someone you should not like, or at least not hold highly?

That'd also be saying that because I was once a Republican, I also should not like Barack Obama. Truth is the reason I am no longer a republican is Barack Obama. People change states of mind, their opinions and beliefs are only as strong as the circumstances that support those opinions and beliefs.

I'm not sure. You sound like a liberal wienie. :) I can't imagine why you would like Fred Thompson. He likes the constitution as it was written. He loves America and freedom. He thinks our money is our money, not the governments money. And he understands the 1st amendment and what it says about religion. Maybe you just had a weak moment. Hillary is going to be disappointed in you. If you are from the same city as Jake, you better have the water tested, something wrong there.

No, you're not thinking. If you are liberal and Democrat and belong to the ACLU then I don't buy it that you like Fred Thompson. No one I know who's liberal, or a Democrat likes Fred Thompson because he is the candidate most like Bush and wants to advance Bush's policies. He's also anti-choice, is a former lobbyist including corporate lobbyist, former senator and is pretty lazy, just like Bush. So you're probably lying about all of this or you are completely uninformed about Thompson.

I'm a registered Democrat, and I like to think I am liberal. I also like Fred Thompson. Mainly, because his stance on issues is not ultra conservative and he seems like he could bring people together instead of divide them. Wait until debate time and then we'll see all the candidates true colors.
I think he's gonna shine.... you are not crazy.

Just make sure you don't confuse him with his Law & Order character. The L&O character makes far more reasonable decisions, imho, than Thompson is on record as supporting.

That said, you have the right to like whomever you wish.

Erudite, I'm stunned almost speechless! This has to be the very first time I've ever agreed with you. I like Fred, too.

I can't either. What do you know about him? If you don't know anything about him then yes, I think you're crazy. If you do know anything about him and still support him I suspect you aren't anywhere near being a real Democrat or a liberal for that matter.

It seems that your mind is evolving and taking a step forward.

Normal? No, but who strives for mediocrity? Plenty of time to decide.
