http://www.abington.k12.pa.us/zuckar/ban_dihydrogen_monoxide.htm

today was my first day of bio, 9th grade. my teacher gave us this website to read over, and discuss on monday. isn't dihydrogen monoxide water? from the way it's described, 'Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage' If you breathe in water, you'll drown, and if you are exposed to ice for a long time, you'll get frostbite.
So... am I right?

Yes, you are correct.

Water is the greatest threat to our existence. We should ban it entirely in all its forms!

Very good! All you had to know was that water is H2O. "di" meaning two, "mono" means one, hence the dihydrogen monoxide name. :) There's many different ways to say the same compound. Just some are better than others!
