There is no indication on the instrument. I can't remember what the open note is but it's not G as in a B flat clarinet! I wondered what the open note was on each key of clarinet. And where would i find the appropriate fingering guid to match?

Try it too with the xxx:oooo fingering (low C) and see what you get there too in order to confirm your finding.

On the Bb instrument you'd get a Bb. On the A you'd get an A. On the C you'd get a C and on an Eb we'd have an Eb. This method is a touch easier to remember. ☺

Keep in mind, there's no assurance this instrument is tuned to A=442

Find something that seems to register as a concert pitch A (even if out of tune) and then see if the instrument reads as correct when you set the tuner to A=440, A=430, A=415

Fingerings on the clarinet remain constant throughout the family, there aren't different fingerings for the different keys such as we have on recorder. C is always fingered the same for example. The parts are written transposed for the different clarinets.

Add for our Ausie friend: Clarinets come in many many keys. The most common (but not all of them) are Ab sopranino, Eb soprano, D soprano, C soprano, Bb soprano, A soprano, A basset clarinet, G alto (Turkish), F basset horn, Eb alto, C bass, Bb bass, A bass, EEb contra-alto, and BBb contra-bass. There is also an EEEb octo-contra-alto and a BBBb octo-contra-bass.

A typical wind ensemble will have Eb soprano, Bb soprano, Eb alto (about extinct), Bb bass, and either EEb or BBb contra. The orchestra will typically have Eb soprano, Bb soprano, A soprano, Bb bass. Either could have more. ☺

The open note on all clarinets is "G". However, this "G" is not always in concert pitch; it will not appear as a "G" on a chromatic tuner.

If you are using a chromatic tuner, open "G" played on a clarinet pitched in B-flat will register as "F". A clarinet pitched in A will register an "E". A clarinet pitched in C will register a "G". A clarinet pitched in E-flat will register a "B-flat".

I'm curious to see what you find out; please update your question with your findings!
