I really don't care. Mind you, I would regret his death as much as I would any other person, but Steve Fossett is no hero. He's not brave and he's not an explorer (think: the Crandall Canyon Coal Miners). He has done nothing to educate people (think: Steve Irwin) or to further the state of the art in aerospace technology (think: Virgil Grissom). Not that he's under any obligation or social contract to do so, but I'm not about to eulogize a man whose accomplishments are little more than well-planned purchases. What he's done is to build a monument to his personal excesses and has bought a bunch of world records to ensure his place in some recordbook for decades to come. Godspeed Steve, but no praise from me.

I really don't think he would make his family and friends worry just for a publicity stunt.

If you are wrong, and I believe you are, when they do find him, will you come back on YA and apologize for your insensitive flippancy

No, I don't think you would have the class to do that.

i s'pose its possible. i'm just curious why if he was attempting one of his records as i hear, he didnt file a flight plan? isnt that something experienced aviators and adventurers do...considering the high risk that something go wrong and they need to be rescued?

No, I don't believe that's true. He's missing and we all should be praying for his safe return.
