Several reasons
1. Like all other leaders, Arab leaders, facing insurmountable problems at home, distract and unite their citizens with a common enemy. Bush tried the same tactic - ARE YOU WITH ME, OR AGAINST ME -.
This is a trick of leaders, which works best for Dictatorships, to keep the Dictator in power, it doesn't work well in a Democracy for to long.
2. The West, with the US as the most insatiable country, needs Arab oil, but likes the Arabs nicely back in the middle ages. That doesn't go over to well with them.
3. The Koran teaches hate, death and humiliation to non believers and women, who do not consent. The US is the epidemy of that hate.

The dictators in the Middle east cover up their own failures by encouraging the population to blame the United States for their poverty and misery..
A better measure of our stature is the enormous number of people in the Middle East who would like to come to the United States and become citizens of the United States if they had the chance.
We essentially become a proxy for the failures of the dictators who run those countries.
If you complain about your lot and blame it on the dictator that is currently running your country there is a very good chance that you will wind up dead or badly injured.
If you blame your problems on the United States you are a good person in the eyes of the dictator and you will be permitted to go on living for another day.

It all began after WWII when survivors of the Holocaust felt as if they didn't have a home anymore. They were then granted land in Palestine which started the Israeli and Palestinian conflict that has continued since that time. Then when the support of Persian empire to fall and become Iran. Let's not forget who first put Saddam in office, oh yes that was America. We have wronged the Middle Eastern countries in so many ways how couldn't they hate is the question. There is a small portion of their populations that actually hate the people it is more so our government. Yes, there are militant groups that actually do hate the people but there is not a significant amount of those compared to the entire population of the Middle East.

There are a great number of things. I really do not know what one thing could be. We seem to be very war like. We kill each other our kids, parents, etc. But so do they. We work hard and provide a home for ourselves, They probably do also. At least the majority. All of our bells and whistles. But so do they. We are {at least a loud mouthed few] are pulling away from God. They are not. Their Allah is their life. HMMMM

Because America has only brought trouble to the rest of the world. America is not the "land of the free" as the acolytes of stupidity in the US believe.

because we (the west) have been invading their countries for centuries..even before they WERE countries in the western style....forcing unwanted influence on their societies and cultures, occupying their holy lands, rock music, McDonald's, western clothes, western style governments, supporting dictators friendly to the west instead of to their own people, allowing foreign oil companies to mange their resources, etc, etc, etc, etc. I don't think we'd like it much to have Arab armies based in the USA, or hear the major radio stations playing Arab music, or see our kids taking up Islamic customs or religion....the Christian churches would be going nuts if the middle east had as much influence on Americans, esp. young ones, as we have on them. You'd hate them as much they hate us.

Most of Arab populations can't read and the information they are fed is closely monitored by the government. It is ignorance that keeps them blind.

It is easier to direct the hate for someone who is far away.
If they look at themselves in the mirror and they saw how their own people are treating them I am sure their hate will shift too.
