I haven't seen that but chances are they'll just make it up somewhere else.

Estimates for car repair can vary a lot. One person's estimate can be twice that of someone else. Since most people don't know what it will cost, they can practically just make up a number. If they do a deal like that, they'll just make their number 500 more than what they had in mind at first. Then tell you they'll pay the deductable.

It's kind'a like trading in a car. They tell you they'll give you a large amount but they'll just make you pay for it on the new one.

I don't mean to bash bodyshops and insurance adjusters....some of them are very honest and straightforward. But it's hard to believe they will just take your deductable out of their pocket. They'll make sure they receive a fair price for their work...it's just business sense.

I agree with those above, except it should be noted that it is against your insurance contract. If your insurance provide discovers the ploy, they will send you a bill for the deductible + fees, and very possibly revoke your insurance policy. This has far-reaching consequences for you when you attempt to purchase coverage elsewhere, causing headaches and much higher premiums...

They are cutting their labor costs in order to get the business. If it's the only shop in the area giving that offer I would be very wary.

If the job is $1500, and your deductable is $500, they charge you $1000.

Easy. They simply charge more to do the repair. It's an old ploy to grab some business when things are slow.

basically its a thing to get the job. in a nutshell they take the loss of income to get the job. its just like them discounting the labor rate or what have you.
