The answer depends on the ages of the father and son. If you are both physically fit and like the outdoors backpacking the AT is very nice (it has gorgeous sites to see). If you are not really into backpacking, you could stay at a hostel and do day hikes. If you go Damascus, VA is a popular place. There is alot to do in a small area.
If you would prefer fishing, there are lots of state parks that you could look into. I always try and avoid the more common tourist trap places, too many people ruins a nice vacation.
Good luck. Have a nice father son trip where ever you go.

How about Wyoming. Jackson Hole and Yellowstone are full of things to do. You can go rock climbing if you want to in the Grand Tetons. There are dude ranches and horseback riding. White water rafting the snake river. Plenty of hiking trails and back country camping. Yellowstone and the snake river have awesome fishing. On top of this, there is so much to explore: Waterfalls, geysers, and a ton more. It was so cool to see all the wildlife. Bears, wolves, bison, moose. We saw it all out there. It was the best trip of my life.

I liked hunting and fishing with my son. The Y-O ranch in Texas is a fantastic spot for such a hunt.
Camping in the Smokey Mountains in Arkansas, Tennessee or the Carolinas is great. There is fishing and rafting, hiking, campfires and horseback riding.
Riding 4-wheelers at a Texas Ranch (dude ranch) is fun as well. I suggest spending time outside under the stars.
Finally, a trip to the beach is always fun. Fort Walton, Florida, the Carribean, Central America...there are lots of places to go....have fun!

Perhaps solicit the answer to your question from your son? Sure he has some ideas.
At least take them into consideration. Then decide together?
Your objective is of course to have a nice time and father the father-son bonding.
Easier to do if he has a significant input on the decision process,

As just a father son trip? Well, I would say something fun and cool. If not in those places and you can go anywhere, I would say Florida, Disney World in Orlando or Universal Studios if he's into rides/theme parks. Considering i don't know his age, this is the best answer for any kid between 1 and 13 at least.
Let me know if this helps!!!

Depends on what you two like. Maybe fishing in Canada, or in the Gulf of Mexico. You could go para sailing or learn to parachute together.

I don't know how old your son is but, when my grandson was 10, he and I spent a week at a guest ranch in Arizona and had a wonderful time. If you don't like Arizona, they have some really nice ones in Colorado in and around Jackson Hole.
