I had to get my blood taken AGAIN today because they say that the last time it was taken, I was considered anemic. Has anyone ever experienced this? What is done to help me overcome it? 32 weeks today.

I had this all the way through my pregnancies and had blood taken regularly...no matter how many times they take it it still nips a bit doesn't it? lol I had to take tablets which were OK, didn't help me much but I am normally anaemic so just loads of checks. You'll be fine. Good luck.

It depends on how low your hemoglobin / RBC count actually is. When I first got tested, my hemoglobin was at 10.8, which is below the lowest normal value (12). I got put on Iron pills (which make me very nauseous and queasy) to up my hemoglobin, and the next time I got tested, it had gone up to 11.2 (big deal, right?). Anyway, the thing with anemia is that it can make you feel weak, tired, and can be of concern during labor (since you lose a lot of blood in the process).

So depending on how low your hemoblobin actually is, your doc may choose to put you on iron pills (or even an iron shot). Do what he/she says. It can't hurt you. Also, always avoid taking your iron at the same time as calcium-rich foods / drinks (like milk, yogurt, etc.), because that interferes with your bodies ability to absorb the iron. Instead, wash down your iron pill with a tall glass of OJ (or other Vitamin C-rich drink), because that helps you absorb the iron!

Since being pregnant I have had low iron levels and have had to take an iron supplement in addition to my prenatal vitamin. I was just told yesterday that I am anemic. The Dr. told me to take 1 iron pill (FerroSequels) 4 times a day (4 total per day), and eat a very iron rich diet. Make sure you take an iron supplement other wise you can suffer from fatigue and irritability.

I was anemic during both my pregnancies. It means you are low on iron. I had to take some iron pills. They doc does not give you a prescription for them so you will have to go to a pharmacy and purchase them. You will be checked again after giving birth (your 6 week check-up) to see if you are still anemic and chances are you wont be!

Anemia is very common during pregnancy. They gave me iron pills to help mine, but they made me sick. It was hard, because I got light-headed and nearly fainted a few times. You need to be very careful about that. Hopefully, the pills will work for you, but if not, its not a HUGE concern. It just makes you feel like crap.

It depends how much anemia you have. Don't worry, it happens a lot to women in pregnancy. Follow your doctor's instructions, he may give you extra ferrum. Make sure you eat beef (well done, no blood) every day, together with green salad.
