Why are funny cars called funny cars. Just what the hell is so hilarious about them?

the term comes from how the were classified in the early years the class was F/C it stood for fuel coupe..
but with the altered wheel base people thought they looked funny...F/C became funny cars

they are called "funny" cars because the first ones were based loosly around stock bodies that had the front wheels placed farther forward...people called them the funny looking cars...then funny cars. the name just stuck...

hahaha maybe it's 'cause they're so eggagerated in every way....huge power, huge drive tires...

You gotta admit they look a little rediculous when the tilt-up body is in action.
