The square root of 60 is 7.746 or 7.7 rounded to the nearest 10th.

7.7x 7.7=59.29

The way to estimate square roots is a simple non linear successive approximation process like this:

60 is between 49 & 64 so it is more than 7 and less than 8.

now since 60 is closer to 64 than 49 then the answer is greater than 7.5 and less than 8.

the mid point between 49 & 64 is (49+64)/2 = 56.5

and the mid point between 56.5 & 64 is 60.25
so the answer is roughly half way between 7.5 & 8
a very close guess is just under 7.75

the actual answer is 7.7459
