If we are, it's an awful waste of space.

Well, the reason we exist is because the earth is pretty much perfect (just the right distance from the sun, has water, oxygen, etc.). The chances of another planet in a solar system having sufficient conditions for life forms to exist is about 1 in... a huge number (with like 500 zeros). But there are alot of galaxies and ALOT of solar systems/stars out there so i wouldn't be surprised if another life form exists in space besides us or we are alone, either way wouldn't really be a surprise.

There are other lifeforms out there. we are not the only lifeform in the universe, my dear, for the simple reason that there are over 300 species of lifeforms living on or inside your body. no, i know you probably made a mistake, you probably were talking about aliens.
because as soon as you walk out your door you have millions of different species each numbering from a thousand to several billion. some humans say we are lonely because we are the only intelligent animal on this planet; but that is not true. we simply choose to ignore the other sentient beings because they are sentient in unique ways we cant understand.
so let me reassure you, if we are not alone on this planet (and we most definitively are NOT) what makes you think we are alone in the universe?
the universe is so big that you and I will never understand exatly how big. for example, think of how many planets there are around a sun. usually one or two (though we have more). then think about now many stars there are in a galaxy. millions. then think how many galaxies there are in our universe. probably billions, since we can only detect the close few.
for all we know there could be trillions of life bearing comets, asteroids, planets or moons.
its kind of like having thousands of friends and each of them is grounded with no phone privileges. we cants see or talk to them, but its only a mattter of time before we go out to play.

first i thought that life is common in the universe. and all life forms striving for a higher conciousness. until we get it right, here, we can go to the next where life functions 20%of brains
maybe, until we see perfect. but then yet my mind switched to something else. Maybe there arent others. maybe all we see out there is all in our heads. the stars are these points in your brains or something. No aliens or other forms we evolve to. Theres some others out there, I call them the light beings. when you were born, there was also another you that began.
The anti matter of you, your light being living somewhere far but close to God. and that is all. And when we die, heaven or hell idea is so unfair. and that is not my god. i think when we die, we choose. to live again until we see what god is and see what he sees. or we can be just a light being who strives only to go through with the speed of light which to do so, it must experience all. Wow! I cant believe what i just wrote down. Excuse myself if im weird, but this is what i am.

If you mean life on Earth in general, then a conditional "yes"; that is, we are the only life in the Universe that we know of at present.

I know I'm asking a lot, but try reading the wikipedia artice on the "fermi paradox" When asked this question Enrico Fermi, a major leage physicist who worked on the Manhattan project in WWII, thought a moment and then answered "Where are they?" If technological civilizations exist they should be able to colonize the galaxy in 5-50 million years. And yet there is no evidence unless you're gullible enough to believe crop circles. This article basically covers the field on the question of extraterrestial civilizations.

You must mean to ask is earth the only planet capable of holding life don't you ?
Well, I do believe that is not, and it have been proven.
Some Apollo guys left behind a telescope with microbes inside it, then some astronauts recover the telescope and find that the microbes are still thriving.

Well, let's think about this.
Right here on Earth (which was, the last time I checked, part of the universe) we have life forms with eight limbs; life forms with six limbs; life forms with hundreds of limbs; life forms with no skeletons; life forms with exoskeletons; life forms with feathers; cold-blooded life forms; single-celled life forms; life forms that can't live unless they are infesting other life forms; life forms with leaves; etc.; etc.; etc.
So, to answer your question:
NO.

There might be life on other planets right here in our own solar system. I think it's a safe bet to say life exists somewhere else out there.
