Okay like the AMD ATHLON 64 x2 dual core 5600+ I think this is the correct one, has:
AM2 socket (that is the newest home socket for AMD)
2.8 operating frequcey
Duel chip (means two of the 2.8 built on the die)
HT (which is kind of like FSB) is 2000
L2 cach is 1mb on each core which equals 2mb
90 nm size of chip
This is usually pretty cheap around $150 new
Intel has many chips all of them are a lot more expensive and considered to have less fsb but faster operating frequcey. Intel and AMD on duel core chips top out at 3.0. People can overclock both chips a lot and intel is suppose to overclock further now then AMD. Intel chips are a lot more expensive but intel also makes the motherboards for their chips. AMD uses other companies to make things for their chips. Intel also has smaller chips out then AMD, they use less power. Intel usually can last longer, I have owned both AMD and intel and got top chips in both and matched with the top motherboards and so on.
The motherboard will also play in a big issue on which chip to use. A cheap motherboard will make either chip crappy. If you are a gamer either will do well intel will be more expensive and either one you go with if you overclock I would recommend an aftermarket heatsink for the processor (great ones cost around $50)
For the price there is nothing worth comparing with the intel and AMD at the moment. For $150 you can get :
Multi-Core Dual-Core
Name Core 2 Duo E4500
Operating Frequency 2.2GHz
FSB 800MHz
L1 Cache 32KB+32KB
L2 Cache 2M shared
Manufacturing Tech 65 nm
except for the size AMD really has the better numbers for the price. All prices where to www.newegg.com for retail chips new.

That is about like comparing a Ford and a Chevy. They are very similar chips made by different companies. The AMD is made by a British company, while Intel is an American company which makes both Pentium and Celeron processors.
Trying to compare an particular Athlon chip to an Intel chip is about like asking which Chevy is the same as a Saab. There is no real comparison. About all you can do is compare processor speeds (in the case 5600), single or duo core, etc. If the numbers are close, so will be the "power" of the two processors.

you did not tell what model of INTEL chip,
AMD ATHLON 64 x 2 dual core is a dual core prcessor made by AMD..
INTEL has new model Core 2 duo, is also a dual core processor,
Both has the same function, but the one with higher price works better.. dual core processors has better performance than Pentium 4 (intel's)...it has 2 processor chips and consumes less power...

X2 5600+ comes pretty close to an Intel Core2 Duo E6600. Check out the benchmarks below:

To compare Computer Processors(CPU) you should keep these in mind :
1-The higher operating frequency you have, your CPU works faster.
2-The more core in one chip you have, your CPU works better.
3-The more L2 cache you have, your CPU works faster.
4-If your CPU is 64-Bit,it works better than a 32-Bit CPU.

Depends on the Intel® Proccossor... Proccossor's are the brain of your computer... the faster your brain works the faster you can react (Example) so the faster your procossor is the faster your computer will perform... the more money you pay the faster it will go. (in theroy)
