Only you can decide if you are too old. First of all you need to think about the age gap there will be between your youngest and the baby. Do you really want to be starting back in diapers and middle of the night feedings. Another thing to think about is it is only 9 years until your youngest is 18 and can move out, you will then be 47. If you have another child at the age of 40, when that one is 18 and can move out you will be 58. Do you really want to be raising a child at a time in your life when most people are enjoying the empty nest?
And then there is the college tuition. If you are going to be helping your children pay for college, are you going to be able to work enough hours and make enough money when you are 58+?
In the end it is all up to you, but those are the things you might want to think about first.

No its not too late.
You are pressing the boundry though.

The odds on first children after 35 are not good but since its not the first why not go for it.
HOWEVER, when the doctor insists on an amnio, do it. Be prepared for the news that it may very well have the downs marker. At that point you will have a very tough decision.
I do know that given a choice we would not have carried to term knowing that. Cruel maybe, but then my heart is not that loving.

Your only other consideration may be that you will be 58 when the kid gets out of high school. Are you prepared to be the oldest parent at graduation. I wasn't. We had our youngest when I was 35 and noticed that I felt old looking at the other parents who were mostly 13 years younger. Weird.

Are you willing to be 60 years old and have a college age child just as you are thinking of retiring? No one can tell you what is right or wrong concerning this topic. You have to decide for yourself.

But just out of curiosity, why are you contemplating have a child with a man you are only dating?

No, it is not.

It will cause problems if the father is older because risk of autism spectrum is higher.

Just be sure to get lots of medical care and get tested for downs syndrome which often occurs with an older mother.

And if you have a special needs child, LOVE THEM. In some ways, they are better than normal kids.

I had my youngest son when I was 38. My oldest was 14 at the time. It was definitly a tougher pregnancy, and harder to get back in shape than with my first. However, it was so worth it to me, I have a great 10 year old son who is the apple of my eye.

You are not to old. I'll be 37 when I have my baby... I don't consider that old at all. I look good and I feel good and I know I'm a good mommy I have a 14 yr old, 12 yr old and a 9 yr old and they are all excited to have a new baby coming.

Well, it's pushing the envelope a little. You will need more close monitoring than someone 10 years younger. Really though, ask yourself if you really want to go through the middle of the nights, engorged breasts, sleep depravation, diaper changes, chasing, child-proofing, carrying the kid here, there and everywhere, the screams & tantrums and drooling and snotty noses again. I wouldn't, but that's me.

It's ok at 40. Just remember the risks do get higher the older you are, but your ob/gyn will be able to answer these high risk questions for you. A women I know had her first at 41.. also her last!!

Miss Mandy, Well my dear this is totally your call ! There are and have always been people older than 40 having children. What does the small still voice in us all say to you ? You need to pray and ask Jesus if it be his will ! Jesus loves you and so do I !
