Fort Collins,
Continually rated at or near the top of the most desirable places to live by Money (or Forbes). The weather, by and large is great. Sometimes it gets nasty in the winter, but for the most part it isn't bad. The summer isn't even close to as hot as Austin. Low humidity. Fantastic views of the mountains. Close to a major city (Denver). College town, Colorado State University. When the city was planned by the city officials back in the 50's and 60's - prior to the growth years they laid out a very workable plan for a very livable city. For example, for every X number of housing units you must have Y number of commercial units - so no place in town is very far from a grocery store. Underground utilities have been used since the 60's.

Both are great cities, Austin is larger. However, it is extremely HOT in Austin in the summer. I like Ft. Collins better. It has 4 seasons, near the mountains, beautiful, more manageable size, and has been named the best town under 300,000 population to live in in the U.S.

Do you even have to ask?
Fort Collins, hands down. There's so much more to do, skiing, hiking, biking, camping, 4 wheeling, checking out Denver, better sunsets, better sunrises, better weather, and not a million degrees in the summer.
