I'm stumped... I've seen lots of people in magizines with the bed up in a corner of their room but what goes behind it in the gap? any ideas so it doesn't look so awkward? I tried a palm tree but it looked funny and hung over the top of the bed...

Also I forgot to add, we have no headboard on the bed and we have two side tables that have lamps so we couldn't use a floor light, that would be too much.

Thanks.

I've used small room dividers screens, a pedastal with a statue on it, a cornice cut of plywood mounted in the corner with fabric hanging from the sides and back, hung an intricate mobile (above a crib but an adult one could be used, too), hung a candle chandaleir from the ceiling above (a lighted one works, too) angled a small bookcase filled with interesting objects, and in my own room I used a very large oriental vase in which I stuck willow reeds.

I had that same problem before. Get a small table or sturdy box. Put it in the gap then put a table lamp there. Or by the lamp that comes over. the arms on it is adjustable so if you read you can pull it closer to you. You can also put a big stuff animal back there. If you want a plant there like a palm tree get a plant called mothers toung. They are tall and green easy to take care of and you can adjust the leaves the way you like. I have a couple other ways as well. Go to lowes or home depot and look at decorating books or buy them. all the above idea's came from them. hope this helps and good luck

When you write "parallel" do you mean diagonal, at an angle from the corner leaving an empty triangle between the head of the bed and the wall? I took a tall wood stool (a cheap 4-legged stool, about 3 ft tall or taller). I put a potted fern on it. It helped fill the void. Also, if you would not want to use a real fern, you could put a tall vase on the stool with tall peacock feathers, that would blend with your purple wall. Or, just put an artificial green plant with tall leaves behind the bed. Raise it on a box or something to get it the right height to fill the area.

I have my room arranged this same way! This is what I did and I think it looks really good. I found a wooden room divider screen and put it back there. This particular one is a three-paneled one so what I did is open up all the way so it is practically flat. It stands up tall behind the bed and gives it a nice balance. I put seasonal decorations on it, like flower garlands, or little white twinkle lights, or both.

Another idea is to find at a flea market or similar an old door or a pair of old doors - whatever fits - and stand them up across the gap. It makes the bed not look so lost.

I hope this helps or gives you another idea.

There are corner book shelves that you could put there. You could also get a pedestal and put a vase with artificial flowers, a statue, or perhaps a table fountain or aquarium. How about a floor standing lamp? We have one behind our bed that has five arms each with a light on it that hangs over the bed.

Try putting an uplight with a warm colored bulb between the bed and the corner to give the space a nice glow. Another option would be a misquito net canopy, you know one of those round things that hang from the ceiling, and drap the netting behind the headboard.
