Can I really believe and trust Dole when they say "organic"?

Dole is a NON-organic grower/producer. They have been that way for hundreds of years.
You cannot expect a leopard to change its spots.
Do not expect a fox to guard the chicken house.
Do not expect the wolves to round up the sheep.
It is a contradiction in terms, an oxymoron.
NON-organic grower/producers are counting on the public to not know the difference. It's like when you shop for fish. You don't know which fish has HIGH levels of mercury and which has LOW levels of mercury. You never bother to test the fish for mercury. People don't know the difference without testing.
.... and 'descendentofzeus' doesn't know what "systemic" pesticides are, and that growers have been using systemic chemicals before he was born....

No. I would not believe or trust them.
DBCP is a teratogenic poison. Any fruit company that uses such a poison on food is a company like Enron that doesn't give a damn about the customer. Dole has been in the business over a hundred years and if they claim "I didn't know" or "I don't recall that, Senator" then they're just like tobacco companys that say 'nicotine is not additive'.
vpsinbad50 - a display case by themselves is a good idea and I haven't seen it at Whole Foods which makes me think about Whole Foods credibility also. I'm sure Whole Foods intentions are good, but then, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. On the flip side - you are wrong to say all bananas are organic ... especially when Dole uses DBCP on the inorganic ones.

no, I wouldn't believe or trust Dole. Daneel makes a good point. If Dole and others have been using chemical poisons (insecticides, fungicides, nematocides, fumigants) for a hundred years, it would be a big surprise (out of character) to see them stop using chemicals cold turkey and say here is an "organic" fruit! as if they knew the difference. Most likely they are counting on the public to not know the difference just like vpsinbad50 thinks "all bananas are organic".

I see Dole is offering "organic" bananas right next to bananas sprayed with DBCP and they're both from Ecuador

all organic produce are to be displayed in a case by themselves . i worked in produce for years and when organic foods became popular this was the rule . if there is a spray the chemicals will rinse off on the organic produce and then they just defeated the purpose ..... All bananas are organic , it's hard to spray something grown in the wild and so far up in trees , they become non-organic when sprayed before shipment

Of course you can believe them. If Dole says it is "Organic" it is organic. Do you really think something like the truth would keep them from making a buck ?

If you're throwing away the peel, as with bananas or oranges, then it really doesn't matter much. If you're eating the skin, as with apples and grapes, then such things matter. Strawberries are the most important fruit to get organic, as they absorb all the stuff that's sprayed on them.

The store and Dole are trying to get you to pay more for the bananas.
