I believe we would.

This war is notable in that very few people have to make any sacrifices at all. Our economy is virtually unaffected, a relatively small number are going to Iraq, and there is no draft.

If the draft were reinstated? Many of the people that have been apathetic about the war would be likely re-examine it. People who support the war might be a little more hesitant and a little less supportive.

There are lots of people who support the war and would continue to support it. But they would probably find themselves in the minority.

Most likely. I think that is what Murtha had in mind when he suggested it. People think now that the soldiers signed up for what they are facing so it is sorta okay. But if there was a draft well then it would be involuntary. We might see the same type of reaction that occured during the Vietnam era. I think the powers that be know this and rather than institute the draft, they've redeployed and lengthened deployments much more than is good for our men and women in Iraq.

The war would become even more unpopular; but the draft did not end the Viet Nam war any quicker, there is no reason to think it would work now. There are always loop-hole for rich kids to somehow get out of it.

The men and woman fighting the war today are there because they feel it is the thing to do. There are many reasons why they do it. I am very proud of them, even if I totally am against the war. The war is stupid, the people who sent them are stupid, but the troops are the top of the line as far as being a good bunch of people.

Draft? Look. I am in the defense business. The sophisticated weapons systems and equipment in use and being developed today considered, unwilling conscripts would be of little use in today's military.

It takes over a year to train people to use, deploy and maintain most of the apparatus in use today. Even in close combat. A bunch of unmotivated people pressed into service against their will would be more of a liability than an asset.

People get drafted for two years. After basic training and schooling to bring them up to speed, you would be lucky to get three months out of them before they were done.

No, a draft would not provide what America needs. If we fall short of our requirements we should offer more lucrative pay and benefits to encourage the right kind of people to enlist and extend that enlistment commitment.

Thats like asking if pouring gasoline on a fire will put it out.

And anyone that thinks it would stop the war because the republicans kids would get drafted is kidding themselves. The "rich kids" aren't going to be the ones that get drafted...they will get out of service just like they have in the past.

No. Cheney will hold a seminar on how to dodge the draft 5 times and still act tough.

Of course not. That would merely enslave innocent young Americans and send them to their deaths as cannon fodder. Such a policy would be morally disgusting and if we instituted it, any debate about whether we are still a free country must cease (because no free country enslaves its own population).

Nope, because our date to leave Iraq is about the time Iraqis are able to defend themselves. More of our force doesn't mean squat until they have enough troops to fill our shoes.

Yes, sirre. Because then americans will actually have to care about what is going on. Most of us just sit on our butts and say "what can I do about it?, Oh well."

Yes, fill a body bag with a conservative, lobbiest, oil comapny exec. or republican senators son or daughter & this war would be over in a heartbeat.
