I’m a Mexican guy; I never get any complaints about my English. The other day in San Antonio, Texas, I went to Church’s Chicken. I was alone, so I hadn’t even opened my mouth, I wasn’t talking to anyone. I was approaching the counter, and this Black woman pops up her frog-ugly eyes at me, and abruptly turns around before I could say anything. She yells out “I don’t have time for translations, you take care of this”. Immediately this White girl comes to take my order in English since that’s the way I was going to order anyway.

I was so shocked, I just ordered and left.

Now that I think about it, should I've called both my lawyer to come over immediately, and the police?

It sounds like she was ignorant and rude, but not neccessarily racist. She's probably one of those fast food workers who hates their job and are disappointed with their life, so they take it out on the customers. You know the ones I'm talking about. I think we have all experienced that at a point in time.

I wouldn't have went as far as calling the police, however, calling your lawyer WOULD be a good idea. Sue the restaurant. Even though it's not directly their fault, they are responsible for the people they hire.

Hell, I'm waiting for someone to say or do something to me so I can get a lawsuit going! Everyone else does it.

Call the police for what? You're absolutely right that she was rude and you had every right to feel insulted, but this isn't a matter for the police. They have more important things to do. If I were you, I would have asked to speak with the manager right away and I definitely wouldn't have ordered food and given them more business. Since you were so shocked at the time, I can understand your intial reaction, so what you should do now is call up to the restaurant and either speak with the manager now or find the number to their corporate offices and complain to them. That's discrimination whether it came from a single employee or the entire company as a whole, and needs to be addressed.

A lawyer? The police? Why would you call the police on someone who did not want to service you? I'm not sure if racism is when someone assumes you speak a certain language because you look a certain way. That's more like ignorance than racism. I would definitely call her manager and report her, but the police? Come on man.

Her comments had nothing to do with the law. What you could have done is not ordered and just walked out. Not giving them business sends the message.

She was stupid for sure. But what do you think the police were going to do? Arrest her for being ignorant or insensative? If that was the case there would be more people in jail then out.

No. You have no damages to the lawyer question. If you worked there, that would be different. And it's not against the law to be an idiot, which clearly she was.

But if I were you, I would have gotten her name and talked to the district manager or called the Church's corporate office or write a letter and tell them you didn't appreciate this. Or you could get LULAC on their butts and picket their store. I bet she'd get in trouble bad.

Just an ignorant lady..........you have no case. Not to mention just pick your battles carefully. it would not have been worth it to you or your lawyer. No need to try and sue which what some folks would tell you to do. Let roll off and realize she is in worse condition than you will ever be

And what would they have done, the lawyer and police?

Yes, that was racist, you should've reported her to the manager or corporate office, but a lawyer...forget about it.

She was. You should have asked to speak with her boss, if he didn't handle the problem gone up the chain. I'm sure someone in church's would have handled it. I'm black and I sure don't get treated like that when I go to el pollo loco....
