Doing ANYTHING uses up some of your allocation.

Even basic surfing and asking questions here.

What country are you in? In the USA, transfer caps are almost non-existent. Nobody would do business with a company that has caps. they just go to a competing provider .that doesn't have such restrictions.

You'll certainly have a maximum uload and download speed, and since the A in ADSL stands for Asynchronous, your download speed will be much higher than upload. Usually like 768k download and 128k upload, or 1.5mb download and 384k upload.

Like the first guy said, doing anything uses some of your cap- it's just the total amount of data sent/received. Obviously downloading large files like movies and music burn it up much faster than posting simple text messages.

What does your ISP say the cap is- 1gb per day?

Yeah, 1 gig isn't very much for a cap. Are you sure that is not your dl speed?
