...LOL @ THE DECEMBER 2012 ANSWERS.
Okay, people. Listen up. DECEMBER OF 2012 is when they Mayan Age of Truth begins. People have assumed that this will be the end of the world, when it's just the beginning of a new Mayan era. Jeez.
If the world falls into a vast abyss, I'm pretty sure no one knows when. It'll be a surprise. Like a birthday party.

I was raised Baptist and went to Catholic School. I had Episcopalian and Catholic grandparents. I had a best friend who was Pentecostal. My favorite cousin was Mormon. As a child I was very ill and almost died. I also peeked through the blinds when my adult family was watching a movie about the end of the world when we were supposed to be outside playing. This caused me to look for answers to things at an early age.
One of those answers was about the end of the world.
My Baptist leader said that only God knows when but it certainly would happen one day and that only those saved are resurrected through Christ.
My Catholic leader told me to get back to class.
My Pentecostal friend's female minister told me it didn't matter because I was going to hell anyway and that is why I was sick at age 8. It was my fault because I was evil.
My cousins Mormon leader told me to ask my parents because he thought they were better able to talk to me about it.
My Episcopalian Grandma bought me a book about the disease I was ill with and my Episcopalian Grandpa went outside to smoke.
My Catholic grandpa took me to Baskin and Robbins for a 'Matterhorn' and put me in a sugar high that made me forget about it til the next day.
My parents told me that yes, one day the world may end while we are on earth. That it could also happen after we die. Either way we must be saved through Christ to have eternal afterlife with God.
Then the last person I asked said something that I like to agree with because it makes the most sense. My Catholic Grandma.
'Grandma Carmen, when is the end of the world going to come and what are we going to do?' I asked.
Grandma replied' Well, everyone's world ends one day when they die. No use worrying about something you can't do anything about, now, eat your cupcake.'
So pick your belief.

Yes the world will come to an en someday because of the human race. we are like parasites on this planet. all we do is use up all of the natural resources we can, and do not find a way to replenish them. or when we do fin a way, politics stops us from using them. it all has to do with the almighty dollar.
so, yes this world will end someday, due to our irresponsibility for our surroundings.
and with all of the war, fires, and terrorisms lately, i think it will happen a lot sooner than everyone thinks.
it's all very sad.

The end will come like a thief in the night, so expect it when you least expect it. Just as our lives must end, so will this earth.

If you mean planet Earth, yes it will. Once the sun dies solar system will become uninhabitable. As far as the universe is concerned no one knows for sure. Here is an interesting article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu_cosmology#In_The_Puranas
