Use True Sword: http://www.securitystronghold.com/true_sword.html
Here are the reasons:
* This one can fix over quarter of a million malicious problems
* It's fast, especially with Windows XP
* That will never delete the file your system needs for proper work, while the other programs remove everything they found as a threat
* This program will NEVER piss you off with useless informational boxes.
By the way, if you look around last questions, you'll find several talking that Spybot and Ad-aware are also have some problems with solving malicious problems.
Good Luck!!!

Ouch, infected by adware while browsing the internet. That suck's dude. Don't worry it has
happened to Millions of people all over the internet.
I was infect with adware the other day, and tried all the so called "free" removal programs. One
of them actually infected me with additional Adware. I couldn't believe it! I was so frustrated,
that I almost went and bought a new computer. It is a good thing that my friend told me about
XoftSpySE. It told me that it would solve all of my adware and spyware headaches, and boy
was he right. I continue to be adware and spyware free to this day.
To remove adware,I recommend XoftSpy Se.
XoftSpy Se Features:
Remove Spyware, Adware
Stop Pop-ups
Kill Trojans, Worms, Viruses
Clean Registry & Program Errors
Remove harmful registry keys and files
Speed-Up your computer
Destroy harmful hijackers

Clean & Optimize your PC
It can be found on this page:

Finally,Make sure you have 1 or 2 antispyware on your computer and 1 antivirus and also 1
firewall.

No single program can detect and eradicate all adaware and spyware. It is best to use multiple programs, I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot which are among the best (they are free).
The best spyware remover is Webroot Spy Sweeper, but it's not free. http://www.consumersearch.com/www/software/anti-spyware-reviews/index.html
Running these programs in Safe Mode (tap F8 after powering on the computer and choose to boot to Safe Mode) can be more effective.

DO NOT Buy spyware removers the 2 best are both free.
I'd reccomend these 2, run each in turn
ADAWARE fro www.lavasoftusa.com (Free personal version)
also SPYBOT S&D from www.spybot.org (Again free for home use)
Also worth having in toolbox is CCLEANER from www.ccleaner.com again a free download, and a good general windows tidyup utility.

it sounds like you did pick up some stuff. not anyone scanner is going to catch anything, therefore you need to run a combination of scans. i copied this from a post that i had replied to (and the link to that post, should you need it, or if the links don't work). also, make sure you run all of the scans in "safe mode". g/l, sos
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5125 <-- ccleaner, this will delete alot of crap (temp files, etc.), if you have stuff in the recycle bin that you need, make sure you uncheck that box.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/default.aspx <-- mcafee "stinger"
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2859 <-- spyware blaster (helps to keep stuff from ever installing)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html <-- spybot s&d
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=506 <-- ad-aware
i'd run these scans then see what you found. i tend to like yahoo's toolbar which has a spyware scan that you can run.
http://toolbar.yahoo.com/ <-- yahoo toolbar with spyware scan.
basically, you need to run a combination of scans, not 1 antispyware scan is going to catch everything. when you run a combination of scans, then you are improving your odds.
also, i'd boot into safe mode, and then run antivirus scans and see what they catch.
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html <-- bitdefender
http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html <-- kaspersky
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?cid=9914 <-- mcafee
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym <-- symantec
fyi, just be patient. i'd reboot between every couple of scans or installations, you to don't things hosed up.
edit: it looks like the links are broken (fixed them)
