I would give this some very serious thought and do some research before following through with this. When I worked at a large PD in OH, we were constantly taking reports for things like this. Druggies would steel metal downspouts, gutters and siding and even old awnings off older homes and sell it to make money for more drugs. Older, empty homes were broken into and the copper pipes ripped out of the walls.
My aunt has an old house that she has, for some reason, let sit empty for quite some time. The house is an old German farm house that was built in 1900 and my grandfather installed most of the plumbing when he and my grandmother moved in back in the 1940s ~ that's when copper was used almost all the time. Someone broke into this empty place recently and completely tore up the kitchen ceiling and walls, the bathrooms upstairs and downstairs and messed up the old basement.
You may be asking for a lot of extra work and heartache if you decide to put this in. Check with your local PD and see what you can learn about these types of reports and how common they are. And you might check with your insurance company to see if they will cover something like this since there are other options.
Good luck

Have your checkbook ready! Copper is very expensive but it will last for the life of the house if that is what you are after. I don't know the cost of copper today because, like gasoline, it changes depending on futures market prices.

Why would you want copper? when plastic is better and so much cheaper, ten times cheaper.
