I would have thought a bigger sin would be to have an unwanted child or to leave a woman with an unwanted child. Its called choice. If another child is unaffordable why bring the child in to the world. There are rules on vasectomy such as age & what sex your children are. How do catholics survive no contraception, no vasectomy, no masterbation. Their nuts must be painful. I think everyone should live & let live, i respect their views & they should respect other peoples views. from a man whos had vasectomy & still masterbates `its healthy`.

Most religions would say no, but the Catholic religion would tell you that it is. Equivalent to abortion, no a vasectomy prevents pregnancy where an abortion is after a woman is pregnant or one could say the vasectomy prevents murder. The sin is that you are wasting (or preventing) the seed of life, this is where masturbation is also considered a sin.
After having 5 children, I had a vasectomy but like a lot of people did not know that it was a sin, I was not a Catholic but did convert to Catholicism a few years later, this is when I discovered that it is a sin. God gave us the ability to reproduce, in fact the bible says to be fruitful and multiply. When I talked to one of the priests before baptism I told him about what I had done and he explained to me that if you are not aware that it is a sin then no sin has been committed.
I felt pretty good about that, my wife still feels terrible for allowing me to have one because she was (is) Catholic.

I would say whether or not it is a sin would depend on your relationship with your "God". If you believe it to be a sin, then it is, otherwise, it is not. I figure sin this way; is the voice in your head telling you it is wrong? If so, then it is wrong and injuries you as a person.
Yes, I know some will comment that murder is a sin no matter the voice in your head. My response is that I believe some murder is a sin, society believes murder is wrong (unless done by a righteous gov't) but who determines sin? Is it a sin to help a person who is terminally ill and brain dead end their life by taking them off of life support? Is it wrong? Who determines that? Sorry, not any human.
Now, if you ask me is abortion wrong, the answer, for me is yes, I believe abortion is very wrong. I am pro-choice, but I believe it is wrong. Do I believe a vasectomy is wrong? Nope, as long as you are comfortable with it, you are only doing something to your body.

Some Catholics would say so. But if you aren't Catholic then no it isn't a sin. No it is not anything like abortion. Even most Catholics now days practice birth control, even if it is against the Churches teachings.

You sound like a complete nutcase. A vasectomy is not a sin; it is a medical procedure. It prevents sperm from leaving the male body. An abortion is a termination of a pregnancy, which is a completely different principle. Go take a biology class.

No. It is not a sin. A man should have the right to make this personal decision. Besides, once it is done, he will not be able to create any un-wanted baby. That is a service to the
society. As long as no one forces him to do this. It is O.K.

Yeah it is right along the line of abortion, you see men can do with their bodies what women can't , they have a choice. The only way a woman can almost but not always get her tubes tied or cut but the vasectomy and the tied tubes tied can be reversed. Hysterectomy is just about the only sure way, but you only get one if your body can't get cancer or you are likely to die from a female disorder

Yes it is. It is hindering what God intended the sexual organs to do naturally, which is procreation of the human race.
