I have a cherry, pear tree in my yard. We plant them two years ago, and have yet to enjoy any fruits they produced. The squarrel and bird always gets to the fruit first. How can I prevent that from happening without adding chemical on them?

Bird netting will discourage the birds but they'll probably get some of the outer fruit yet---squirrels are next to impossible unless you wrap the tree trunk with solid aluminum duct --like for home heating or dryer ducts--at least four feet high and paint an earth color so it's not so noticeable. They can't climb the aluminum and it won't hurt the tree or rust. Home centers and hardware stores carry it. Make sure there's no other tree limbs or structures nearby that they can jump from---they never give up on a good meal. Pretty fun to watch sometimes and how intent they are at finding ways to get food. Hot pepper sprays like oleo- capsicum? may work too although they wash off with rain.

I never figured it out. Growing up we had 20 cherry trees in our yard, I never ate a single cherry off of them. The bird would get to them first, before they were ripe.

I know there is large netting to cover the trees--more for the birds on cherry trees. I don't know who sells them. As for the squirrels--I don't know.

Get an outdoor cat or dog. Something that is outside during the entire day. Perhaps get an underground fence so you can leave them out there unattended.
