The original singer of "Drowning In The Sea Of Love" is Joe Simon, an R&B artist who released the song in 1971.

Ringo Starr covers it in 1977, for his album, "Ringo the 4th".

Eva Cassidy covers it live, and it can be found on her album, "American Tune". However, since it was her death before the release, the song maybe be older than 1996.
And there's another song where Fleetwood Mac has the same lyrics, and the song's called "Never Going Back Again". The song's on a 1977 album, so it could be possible that he's sampling lyrics. However, I can't find a female version of the song.

Yes, it is from Fleetwood Mac. It's from the '70's, and it's off of the Rumours cd. I think it's called "Never going back again." However, I could be wrong about the title.
