In the Mexico-Us war the Gringos Soldier were chanting: *Green Go* and *Go green Go*. Then the people from Mexico baptized them as Gringos(gringo is heard as greengo in Spanish).

And that's why we call you Gringos. It's not discrimination nor anything like that, it's just being realistic, because when I say *American*, I can be speaking of a Mexican, an Argentinian, a Canadian or any other nacionality within the American Continent.

For all those of you who think that there are various *Americas* let me tell you that you are Wrong, there's only one AMERICA, and it is from Alazka to Argentina.

Saying that there are several *Americas* would be as ridiculous as saying there are several *Oceanias* or several *Europes* only because somebody called Sweden *Northern Europe*.

Hope you use your common sense and understand my point.

Basically that story is correct, but I heard it with a slight variation. The U.S. soldiers used to sing a popular song of the same era. It had the words "green grows the grass...."
When speaking or writing and anticipate being heard by Hispanic Americans I try to use the term U.S. Citizen or U.S.A. and no, I take no offense.
So why do they often act offended if I say I'm an American? Don't THEY understand? It is difficult (long winded) to say something else. What do THEY want us to say?

Its funny because my uncle is white. And he calls hI'mself a gringo. He says im the gringo uncle. I never thought gringo was a derogatory word. Now when you do say things like honky, white trash, that kind of language is derogatory. ******* can be considered derogatory but now for teenagers its not. I have heard kids say I'm a ******* to describe themselves before. Even though they were born in the US but their parents are Mexican. Someone on here yesterday wrote that illegal is not the equivalent of saying the N word. And I kind of agree. I think some racists are using that word as a derogatory word not as a way of describing a status. Because of the fact that they say a hispanic and that hispanic right away is considered an illegal.

you're just upset because Daniel made you look dumb.

And There are either 6 or 7 continents depending on where you were educated.

In the US we break up North and South America into separate continents.

And I still think its bizarre that you describe your place of origin by the region instead of the country, which is more specific

edited to add: I don't really care what you call me

I evaluate it a detrimental term as quickly as I see or hear it. i don't take offense, even with the shown fact that it extremely is probable to decrease my opinion of the guy making use of it. it extremely is not an uncommon element for human beings to hearken to themselves noted as some thing and undertake that be conscious for their own utilization. in lots of circumstances that's an illustration of their lack of information.

You can call me anything you want but I think this story's just a bit fishey. Next you'll be telling us that Taco Bell is a Mexican telephone company.

We call some Mexicans "wetbacks" because their backs are wet from crossing the Rio Grande.

We also call Mexicans "beaners" because they eat a lot of beans.

Its not discrimination or anything like that.
