I just recently had an AC installed in my kitchen window, which just happens to be right outside the bathroom door. It was suggested to me that I should keep the bathroom door shut when the AC is on, because the AC could suck the moisture out of the toilet.

that is not exactly correct, leave the door open unless you just want it shut

ac units cool the air and as they do, moisture in the air is condensed and drips off as water.
the air is circulated back into the house where it picks up water in any place and then goes back through the cooling coil again, where it is removed.

the water removed is not that excessive unless you live on the moon where the air would be very dry.

you have what is called relative moisture, to water in the air, relative to what is in the house/outside and such.

if the ac unit is pulling that much moisture out of the toilet, is it also dehydrating your plants, (transpiration) as well as your body (respiration) and you need to get away from that thing before dessication occurs.

whom ever told you that was joking

A/C's take in warm, moist air, and blow out cool, dry air. Over a LONG time, it would evaporate out the water in the bowl, but it is not that big a deal.

Now- understand that the cooler and drier the air going INTO the A/C is, the better it will work, so any sources of warmth and/or dampness, like wet clothing or taking a hot shower, means the A/C has to work harder.

If the A/C works harder, it costs more, wears out faster, and blows back warmer air than you might want.

In general, window units also work better if the room they are installed in are as sealed as possible, to limit the amount of air they have to process.

By the way- these are also the reasons we usually don't put window A/C's in the kitchen. You may want to rethink that placement.

No, I don't think so. First of all the Ac doesn't suck. Unless its circulating the air. In that case it goes through a filter and at that point its just water - and further more - if it does circulate air, its just pulling air. Water molecules are are to heavy to be picked up, and in the air in general. If it wasn't, you would see actual drops of water floating around. If however the toilet was boiling and there was steam, and you happened to be circulating the air and happened to not have a filter. Then yes.
