While the fall foilage on the west coast is not nearly as spectacular as that in the Northeastern Coastal States, it can be seen, and is worth taking a trip to view and photograph.
The turning of foilage colours occurs later in the Pacific Northwest than in most other areas of the country, being most prolific in late October and early November in most years, but can vary depending on the preceding weather.
In Oregon, some of the best viewing is on the roads that go through the Coast Range, such as between Coos Bay and Roseburg, Florence and Eugene, Newport and Corvallis. Equally good viewing is in the foothills of the Cascades, often a week or two sooner than the coast range.
I am guessing that the simililar areas of Northern California and of Washington State will have good fall foilage as well.
Enjoy!
