I think its crazy and they have no idea what hapened even a few thousand years ago...its just another example of the arrogance of those who consider themselves to be the Elite amongst us. Do you really believe them?

We know some things from millions of years ago even though we don't know others from later. It all depends on what type of records the event causes. In this case, we can tell the chemical composition of the relevant asteroids and of the meteor that hit the earth (later, at the time of the dinosaurs). We can also tell the approximate times of various asteroid events. This all allows us to know that several different events ultimately came from one object and even gives us an estimate of the time when that object broke apart.

While the case is not proven beyond a doubt, I see no reason to think that they don't have the basic idea of what happened.

You haven't mentioned what new news you are talking about, but there is geological evidence to support the theory that a very large object struck the Earth 160million years ago.

160m years is not a long time geologically when the Earth has been around for about 5 billion. There is evidence that this would have wiped out most life on the planet the size of dinosaurs along with their food, and explain why life in the sea and small animals on land could have survived.

I prefer this explanation than to an "act of God'' which is even more arrogant IMHO. I don't know what you mean by ''they have no idea what happened even a few thousand years ago" where do you get that snippet from?

This Scientist does not claim he knows exactly what happened. He say he has found evidence and run computer simulations that make him 90% sure that this is probably what happened. True scientists always recognize that there are unknown variables that might change their understanding of a given situation. They analyze and observe the evidence they have and come up with the most logical conclusion they can based on the current data. Only fools are ever 100% certain. This man has developed a sound theory and tested it. So far, the evidence has supported that theory. I always support the quest to expand human knowledge. And it is an interesting theory.

Lighten up, it's a theory and if someone actually gets the cause of the dinos' extinction right, more power to them.

Credible evidence is not always a product of the elite. You judge the validity of the data based on an assumed arrogance of the scientists. Could it be that your own arrogance leads you to believe that you are right?

What shows you really have no clue is how you tout it as news. While it is "news"that they have theoretically traced the origin of the asteroid that impacted 65 million years ago to a collision 160 million years ago,It is NOT news that an asteroid impacted the Yucatan peninsula 65 million years ago,the discovery of the iridium layer KT boundary, dating back to the time of impact.Below the layer,Dino fossils, above it,no Dino fossils.Iridium is an element rare on Earth, more common in asteroids. The layer is worldwide, without exception. The article is not really news, more an elaboration on existing knowledge

They must have gone to the Creation Musuem in Tennessee and saw Adam riding on the back of a Dino.

Who knows what scientists think. For the longest time they thought Pluto was a planet and taught in schools. Now it's not.

If they can't prove it with litmus paper, I say, read it, retain it and take it with a grain of salt for one day they will back peddal on it.

You think it's crazy because you have absolutely NO clue as to how they conduct research or what qualifies as evidence or how the fossil record works or really anything regarding the scientific method. It seems impossible and arrogant to you because of your lack of understanding. It's always amazing to me when someone who knows nothing accuses those who know things of being 'arrogant'. The real arrogance is the notion that ignorance is some kind of virtuous state of being.

Its not belief. That is the Realm of religion. No scientists would put hand on heart and swear the dinosaurs died because of this or that. They have theories. Their observations tell them that this scenario or that scenario fits what they observe or measure.

That is science. Why is that so difficult to understand? You have a completely distorted view of science.

without that extinction, there's a sturdy danger that the dinosaurs might nonetheless be around, and mammals might nonetheless be little rodent-like issues purely attempting to sidestep being an appetizer. There maximum actual does no longer be any people.

I believe it. Those astronomers know their asteroids and have even landed space probes on some of them. So I believe they can determine that some of them are debris from a particular impact and that the remnants from the impact on Earth match it.
