Why do some songs sound alike when they obviously are composed differently?

You hear it a lot within one album from an artist. I've noticed it a bit with Linkin Park. Obviously they are different songs, but sometimes they sound alike, aside from the lyrics.

Maybe it's because they use the same hooks, same instruments and same timing (especially where they place the guitar solo or other tricks).
